Are you considering Commercial training?

Even though we don’t deal with commercial EPC certificates at DEAlocal, I’m posting this in response to many queries from our DEA members about the subject.

If you are considering investing on getting your qualifications as a Commercial Energy Assessor to top up your earnings … think twice.

Read this article before you part with you money. There are plenty more articles online advising you about how crowed the market already is. Simply do a search an read those articles.

I’m pretty sure it’s going to sound, somehow, like a familiar situation.

That said, if you are considering it because you’ve got some good contacts within the industry and you know they are going to provide you with enough jobs to make it sustainable, then it’s a completely different story.

Do not believe the claims from training providers, no matter what, they are only trying to sell you a course.

Always Get you EPC Certificates from a local DEA

Commercial Energy assessor market saturation

Syntegra Consulting Ltd are an energy consultancy predominatley working on commercial Energy Performace Certificate jobs nationwide (mainly London & the South-East) we certainly have seen rates forced down due to market competition. We also report that on average qualified or soon to be qualified NDEA's are contacting us for positions on average of 5 a week!

To us it seems that there are a lot of people jumping in without understanding their risk in attaining work once qualified. Some may be seeing this as a part-time role but the majority of NDEA commissions have to be surveyed between mon-friday 9-5.

I too beleive that there is a dangerous level of market saturation, but like everything the fitest will survive.

Commercial Training

I am based in Glasgow and starting out as an DEA, I am considering the NDEA course but wonder what the chances of enough work in the NDEA sectr would justify the training course and all the other associated fees.

Ian ... think twice

As said above, unless you've got some good contacts within the industry and you know they will provide you with enough jobs I would think twice before investing the money on this venture.

As far as I know the marketplace is already flooded with commercial energy assessors.

Commercial EPC training

Hi Manuel,

We wrote a similar article on commercial energy performance certificates. The article has recieved some interesting responses especially the research on assessor numbers. Thanks go to John Morren for his time and research.

I am afraid it does seem as if assessor numbers have grown significantly which is concerning. Does seem as if history is repeating itself.

Commercial Training

As a DEA I keep getting a feeling of deja vu when I read about the urgent need for non domestic assessors.

My advice is only train if the training provider will guarantee you a job in writing or if your existing employer can provide work in this field.

I can assure you that paying out thousands to train for a job that entails sitting at home with no work and no money is not recommended.
